Bijapur (Chhattisgarh):
A jawan of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) lost his life and three others sustained injuries in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by Naxalites in Bijapur district on Monday morning, officials confirmed.
The incident took place inside the Indravati National Park area while a DRG team was carrying out an anti-Naxal operation. The slain jawan has been identified as Dinesh Nag. His colleagues, who were injured in the explosion, received first aid and were airlifted for further treatment. Their condition is said to be stable and out of danger.
Officials said the operation had been launched on Sunday in the region.
Frequent IED Attacks in the Region
Last week, on Thursday, another DRG personnel was injured in a similar IED blast in the same Indravati forest area under Bhairamgarh police station limits. Sub-inspector Prakash Chatti accidentally stepped on a pressure-activated IED, leading to an explosion. He sustained an ankle injury but is reported to be recovering.
IED attacks by Maoists are a recurring threat in the Bastar region, often targeting security forces and local populations. On June 9, Additional Superintendent of Police (Konta division) Akash Rao Girepunje was killed, and two others were injured, after an IED planted by Naxals exploded at a stone quarry in neighbouring Sukma district.
The repeated incidents underline the persistent challenges security forces face in Maoist-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.
