Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others were killed after an aircraft carrying them crashed in Pune district on Wednesday (January 28, 2026) morning, officials said.

A team of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), probing the plane crash, has left Delhi to inspect the accident site in Baramati. The incident occurred when the Learjet 46 plane carrying Pawar (66) and others crash-landed at Baramati Airfield.

According to Flight Radar, the flight took off from Mumbai at 8:10 a.m. and it disappeared from radar around 8:45 am. There were five people on board when the aircraft crashed at 8:50 a.m., a police official said.

Pawar was travelling to Baramati from Mumbai to address public meetings as part of the campaign for the February 5 zilla parishad elections in the State.
